A world free of Podoconiosis within our lifetime

APIDO

APIDO progressed its relationships during 2021-2 supporting Ethiopian ministry of health professionals.

Through regular visits, ensuring ongoing training, sustained supply of podo treatment materials and bespoke shoes, more new patients were enrolled and established patients continued to be cared for within the local health infrastructure. This represents a key step in ongoing sustainability for care of podo patients.

Coaching and mentoring shoe workers continues as a key focus for APIDO – the 6 workshops for developing bespoke large shoes to accommodate the big feet of patients with podo receive technical support and ongoing visits. The plans for 2022 include training a further 60 shoe makers.

Linking these shoe workshops with the treatment health centres ensures a seamless and patient centred service and satisfaction for the patients as well as the staff.
